Best After Dinner Treat

I just got back from my Hawaii Fitness Vacation in Waikiki, and I’m loving everything tropical right now! We enjoyed all of nature’s volcanoes, and turned them into challenging hikes and rock-climbs. We also ran, swam, surfed, boogie-boarded, and dodged the rain :/

I also had the chance to visit Dole’s Pineapple Plantation, and take a tour of their Garden and take the Pineapple Train Express around the farm! Here are some cool tid-bits I learned about our sweet, yellow snack:

My New Pineapple Bod

1. Helps digest protein: Pineapple contains a natural enzyme, called Bromeliade, that helps break down protein faster in your stomach. So if you accidentally ate a big steak too late, (and by accident, I mean enjoyed without regret), and want some help with digestion, chow down on some fresh pineapple!

2. Softens your meats: this same enzyme, Bromeliade, is what helps to soften the protein. Cut up some fresh pineapple, let it sit on your meats in the slow-cooker, and your meat won’t be so meaty in a few hours!

3. Good source of (10%-19% of the DV): Dietary Fiber, Thiamin, Vitamin B6,and Copper

4. Very good source of (20% or more of the DV): Vitamin C and Manganese

Call to ACTION: Cut up fresh pineapple for desert tonight! (Don’t eat too much! It’s not a free-for-all food. There is still natural sugar in this fruit!)
