5 Steps to Harness the Sun’s Energy on Summer Solstice 🌞

Thursday, June 21, 2018 is ​Summer Solstice!! It also marks the first day of summer, and International Yoga Day! YAY! Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, and a time when Earth is closest to the sun.

And when that celestial giant is that close to us, you better believe you are going to feel LIT UP! Take it as an invitation to harness the sun’s abundant energy to inspire you and lift you up. You might be thinking, that all sounds great, but how do I honor this seasonal shift?

You’re in luck babe…

I’ve got 5 easy ways you can tune into the magical solar energies of the Solstice. 

Do one or all of them.

Let’s dive in and take some time to rekindle your internal desires…

1. CHECK IN

Summer Solstice literally means stopping or standing still, from the Latin word solstitum – sol (sun) and stitum (to stop) – making it the ideal day to slow down, and check in with where you are at this midpoint of the year.

Take some time to acknowledge how far you’ve come this year, all of your achievements, lessons learned, growth, and blessings you’ve had in the first half of 2018.

​Notice too where you are at with your goals for the year.

What is working?

What is not working?

Here are a few specific questions to ask yourself. Get out a sheet of paper, and start writing.

LOOKING BACK:

  • List all of your 2018 wins.
  • Which of these wins made your heart sing?
  • Which of these wins are you MOST proud of?
  • What are the life lessons you learned this year?
  • What were your goals in January?
  • Which goals do you not feel connected to any longer?
  • Which goals do you want to reconnect with?

LOOKING FORWARD: ​

  • What do you want the rest of your year to look like?
    • Use the SMART formula: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Risky, Time Based)

LOOKING AT NOW: ​ ​

  • ​Who do you want to be from this point forward?
    • Remember we get to choose who we are. Do you want to be loving, vulnerable, powerful, authentic, worthy, compassionate, giving, passionate, empathetic? It’s up to you! Everyday we get to decide. Let the old stories, worries, and bothers go. Inhale them up, exhale them out.

2. PURGE

Make time to purge and remove everything that is no longer serving you. You get to absolutely love every single item in your home, and if it doesn’t bring you joy, then donate it!

Things in our home hold energy, and when you surround yourself with things that bring up negative energies, it creates a discourse in our bodies, and it doesn’t get to be in your home anymore.

I just recently purged my closet… and I’m not going to lie it was tough, overwhelming, and made me anxious to send so many things to the goodwill … but now, I feel free, light, and happy every time I open my closet.

3. SALUTE THE SUN

Start your day tomorrow by bowing and taking in the fiery solar energy of the sun through a practice of Sun Salutations. (Video link below).

Let yourself receive the radiant sun, light up your heart with each breath, and energize your soul. Get excited for your day, your week, your month, and the second half of 2018.

4. RECLAIM YOUR INNER SUNSHINE

Life comes at us, good and bad. Things happen out of our control. We get triggered. We get disappointed. We get sad.

We also get to respond to life in the way that WE CHOOSE to respond.

Sometimes, we let our lights dim, and our sunshine darken.

And today, let’s reclaim our inner sunshine.

Each one of us has our own personal inner sunshine. It’s called the Manipura Chakra, and it’s located around your belly button (i.e. your solar plexus).

Your solar plexus is the center of your power, energy, determination, and source of manifestations.

Here’s is a Meditation to Reclaim Your Inner Sunshine so you can acknowledge and uncover your own personal golden, glowing ball of sun:

  1. ​Sit on the floor (criss-cross-applesauce), and rub your hands together vigorously to build heat in your hands and stimulate the 72,000 nerve endings in your hands.
  2. Close your eyes, and spread the hands apart with palms facing each other, and imagine a golden ball of sun.
  3. Feel the resistance between your hands. Pulsate the palms around this ball of energy, shaping it powerfully between your hands.
  4. Fill this sunshine ball with your intentions, desires, and passions.
  5. When you are ready, place this ball of energy into your Manipura Chakra – lighting up the center of your being, reclaiming your inner joy and happiness, and rekindle your internal fire.

5. GROUND YOURSELF

We are lighting up, setting intentions, connecting to your solar power – wow!!!

Now let’s make sure we stay grounded and connected to Earth!
